The First Edition has for sale the Ernest Hemingway book To Have and Have Not, which
is a first edition first issue book published by Charles Scribners and Sons, New
York, USA in 1937.
The novel is about Harry Morgan, a fishing boat captain who runs contraband between Cuba and Florida, was famously captured on film in the 1944 Hollywood movie adaptation starring Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall and Walter Brennan, and directed by Howard Hawks.
This rare first edition first issue is complete with the rare dust jacket. The dust jacket is in Good condition being extremely bright but with small loss from the top and bottom spine areas, creasing to the top of the back of the jacket, and corner wear. Still incredibly rare and desirable
The original publisher’s black boards with Ernest Hemingway’s facsimile signature in gilt to the front board and with applied green labels to the spine are in Near Fine condition with slight knocks to the top and bottom of the spine through shelf wear
There are 262 numbered pages with the “A” and the publisher’s logo to the Copyright Page. Pages are in Very Good condition with foxing mainly confined to the edges of the pages
This is a a very collectable Ernest Hemingway first edition first issue of his classic book, To Have and Have Not.
